This painting is from my Still Life After All series. The arrangement of figs, pomegranates, and oleander allude to a balance of life and death. The beauty of the oleander plant with its long leaves and delicate white flowers belay belie its potent toxic nature. And the pomegranates and figs have long been a symbol of fertility and life. It seems the dangers draw breath alongside the good, and this painting explores that relationship. It prompts the viewer to reflect on the transient nature of existence and the delicate balance we navigate between growth and vulnerability, beauty and danger.
