Born in Arizona, I spent most of my adolescence on a ranch in Double Adobe near the US/Mexico boarder.  My father’s job as a rancher and conservationist took my family from Virginia to California and places in between.  The time I spent on the Navajo Reservation as a boy left a strong impression and is often a source of inspiration for my work.  I enjoyed drawing as long as I can remember.  I'm predominantly an oil painter, but enjoy exploring charcoal, gouache, and other mediums.  

Inspiration

Art is my passion.  It is the way I live my life and how I see the world.  I work in three main genres:  Western, Figurative/Classical Portraiture, and a contemporary style of Mexican folk art.  Often my artwork is narrative in style - depicting people and places that I know - other times the narrative takes on a more dream-like form.

Techniques

Often, I have vivid dreams of complete compositions, other times a body of work will coalesce after months of sketches.  Great consideration is given to my composition, colors, and paint application. Sometimes I render an area very smoothly using traditional realism techniques and sometimes I prefer to let the paint tell part of the story with its spatters, drips, and bulk.  Each pose unique challenges and showcase the technical skills that I’ve worked hard to develop.
